    In 1880 Fahlun, Ida was 18 yrs at home, Axel 10 yrs or 14 when school opened 1884 with Ida at 22 and school director Frank Fornell.

    In 1885 Ida not listed in census with family. But in Mpls married to Frank Fornell and 1 yr old Rutherford and 4 yr old Alice. Means married around 1881.

    In 1900 Ida w/o Frank in Wilmar with Effie, Mable, Bertha, Ruth, Rosie.

    DISTRICT 79 (804)
    On July 23, 1883 District 79 was established and covered the following territory: Sections 6, 7 and 18, W½ of Sections 5
    and 8, Lake Elizabeth; and Sections 12 and 13, and E½ of Sections 1, 11, and 14 of Fahlun. The district was organized at
    a meeting on Sept 1, 1883, and the following elected as officers: C. P. Quist, clerk; Frank Fornell, director; and G. J.
    Boom, treasurer.

    The site chosen for the schoolhouse was the SW corner of NW¼ of NW¼, Section 7, Lake Elizabeth. The 18x24x10
    foot schoolhouse was built and the first term of school began on April 8, 1884, with Melvina Peterson as the teacher.

    An 16x20 addition was built in 1894 at a cost of $225. Further improvements were made in
    1898 at a cost of $250.

    Enrollment in 1884 included Edith Quist, Hurby Quist, Earnest Quist, Kate Olson, Hannah
    Olson, Christina Olson, Charles Peterson, Annie Peterson, Frank Eastlund, Christina
    Engstrom, Henry Forsberg, Hilda Sjarstrom, Manda Sjarstrom, Betsy Norine, Axel Lindholm,
    Sarah Engstrom, Augusta Sjarstrom, Willie Carlson, Erick Eastlund, Emma Olson,
    Willie Peterson.

    Teachers during the years 1905 to 1963 included Edith E. Quist, Edna M. Cassidy, Lucile A. Cashman, Mary A. Lipsit,
    Ellen S. Skutle, Mabel E. Johnson, Julia M. Johnson, Victoria Peterson, Josephine W. Peterson, Emma Carlson Myrtle

    This schoolhouse was located in Section 7 in the corner where 120th St SE meets 75th Ave SE. This district consolidated
    with the Atwater School in 1962/63, after 80 years of existence. The building was purchased and torn down. The swings
    went to Atwater.

    WWII - 2nd Lt, Flight officer 44th Troop Carrier Squadron 316th Troop Carrier Group. Enlisted May 30, 1942 at Greenville, Mississippi Army Air Force. Enslistment shows as single without dependents, completed 4 years college and occuption "Bookkeepers and cashiers, except bank cashiers". Army Serial # 15081426.

    The 316th Troop Carrier Group, formed at Patterson Field, Ohio in early 1942, consisted of Headquarters, 36th, 37th, 44th, and 45th Squadrons. Staff sergeant pilots flew their C-47s in support of the British 8th Army across North Africa from Egypt to Tunisia, delivering supplies and pioneering in air evacuation. In July 1943 the Group dropped the 82nd Airborne Division into Sicily (operations HUSKY 1 and 2). In February 1944, the 316th moved to Cottesmore, England, its base for participating in the invasions of France (Normandy, D-Day), Holland (MARKET GARDEN), and Germany (VARSITY). After 30-months of overseas duty, the 316th Troop Carrier Group returned to the US in May 1945.

    It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gordon Galarneau (Billings, Montana), who passed away on August 5, 2021, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

    He was loved and cherished by many people including : his wife Rinda Galarneau; his children, Jill Galarneau (Chad Yeftich), Wendy Penrod Auers (Larry) and Travis Penrod (Deb); his sister Gayle Galarneau; and his grandchildren, Sarah Royce, Brittany Domier, Aaron Johansen, Michael Taylor, Holly Knutson, Lori Taylor and Mallory Taylor.

    A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 7th 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Two Memorial Services (8736 Camelot Ln, Billings, MT 59106).

    Scott C. Galarneau

    Galarneau, Scott C. age 62, of Champlin, passed away at home, surrounded by family on February 14, 2015. He is preceded in death by parents, Dick and Judy; nephew Ricky. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his wife of 35 years, Andie; children, Emily, Tony (Cassie) and Heidi (Jon); grandchildren (and best friends club), Rosalie and AJ; siblings, Sue, Rick and Julie, many other relatives and friends. Scott will be remembered for his humor and love of life. Celebration of life service will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, February 27th at Eastman Nature Center, Elm Creek Park Reserve.
